Here we go again
THURSDAY WAS A HOT DAY IN AUGUST. Unfortunately, it was the last Thursday in the driest September we've sweated through in years. My friend and former Inquirer colleague Tony Wood, who writes about weather patterns, wrote a story last week predicting that this fall is shaping up to be the most spectaular display of autumn foliage in many years all because of such a hot dry September.
I was sweating as I got dressed at 6 a.m. Thursday morning before heading out to teach at Montgomery County Community College. By 11:30 a.m. it was 87 degrees as I drove north on Rte 202 heading to Lansdale. That's when I saw this tree. And that's when I knew Tony was right. This thing just explodes from a forest of green surrounding it. And it seemed to happen over night.
I'm going to keep an eye on autumn this year. Better buckle up. It's gonna be a bumpy ride.
